DBA Trends Survey – Part 3 of 3 – Cloud

Everybody loves to fill out surveys. Right?  Ugh I just never found the time to fill em out. But then again I had to send em back using snail mail. You remember snail mail? Right?

But some interesting stats from this research project By Dr. Elliot King

How long has your organization managed relational databases in the cloud?
More than 1 year but less than 2 years — 46%
More than 2 years but less than 4 years — 24%

Less than 1TB -27%
1 – 99TB -37%
100TB – 499TB -28%

Of all the structured data under management in your organization, approximately what percentage is managed in the cloud?
0 to 10% 128%
>10%=25% -35%
>25%=50% -31%

What do you consider to be the most important responsibilities for DBAs in managing databases in the cloud? (Multiple responses allowed.)
Performance -66%

I was a bit surprised that 23% of users responding to the survey had used relational databases in the cloud < 1 year. I thought many, many, more companies were slow to putting SQL Server data in the cloud.
