Article review “Running SQL Server Developer in a Windows-based Docker Container” by Bob Walker. Walker is founder of CodeAperture.io.

In their words “Is it possible to … Run SQL Server locally, but only when it is needed, and make it easy to upgrade?”

Fantastic walk-thru from prep work, anti-virus config, container config, and saving the configuration in Docker compose. Walker includes all scripts and many screen shots in the article. Walker also point out other articles for additional information you might need.

This article shows you that Docker Containers are a great way to run SQL Server locally but only when needed!

At the end of the article Walker states “… maybe you’ll use Docker to host SQL Server on your development machine instead of installing SQL Server Developer.”. This could be a huge time and cost savings when developer workstations can be built without installing a copy of SQL Server developer edition.

My SQL Server DBA colleagues, I give the article “Running SQL Server Developer in a Windows-based Docker Container” by Bob Walker a thumbs up! Right?
